I was born at Maxville, NSW Australia in 1954. My dad Stanley George Foley was born at Nambucca Heads. My mum came from Manly. They got married in Sydney. I have 3 brothers and I am the only girl. I have lived on the south coast for 20 years. I have studied at TAFE for 6 years and now am studying Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts. I am a painter and surprised at myself of how far I have come. I have an unusual style. I paint what I feel and instinctively choose my colours. I paint my family, landscapes and memories. I also weave traditional and contemporary style dilly bags. I had woven dilly bags chosen for the 2004 TAFE Art prize finalist whereby my artwork has travelled to regional galleries around NSW. The University of Wollongong have 5 of my prints as part of their permanent collection. I have exhibited at Wollongong City Gallery, Wollongong Court House and Long Gallery University of Wollongong. The Boolarng Nangamai Aboriginal Art & Cultural Studio enables me to keep practicing my art, continue my friendships with my Aboriginal community and practice my culture. |
